When a player makes a new court booking through our app they will be able to choose between two options:
- Pay entire amount
- Pay your part
How pricing works for these two options are quite different and important to understand.
Consider the following case
- Padel booking price is 400 SEK
- Service fee for split payment is 3 SEK *
1. Pay entire amount
When Alva selects “Pay entire amount” there are two different price calculations depending on if the venue using MPP (Multiple players price)* or not:
If the venue does not have MPP* enabled:
Alva’s discount will apply to the entire amount and she will pay 300 SEK
Calculation: 400*0,75 = 300 SEK
If the venue have MPP enabled:
A 25% discount will apply to Alva’s part, a 50% discount applies to Peter’s part, Stina and Felix doesn’t affect the price since they don’t have any discounts. Alva will pay 325 SEK.
Calculation: (100 x 0,75) + (100 x 0,5) + 100 + 100 = 325 SEK
Since this is not a split payment we will not charge a service fee for split payment.
2. Pay your part (split payment)
When the booker selects to split the payment, any individual discounts will not apply to the full amount or affect the other players' prices. The MPP feature will not be taken into consideration.
Alva will get a 25% discount on her part + service fee for split payment: 78 SEK
Calculation: (400/4*0,75) + 3 = 75 + 3 = 78 SEK
If Peter pays he will get a 50% discount on his part + service fee for split payment: 53 SEK
Calculation: (400/4*0,5) + 3 = 50 + 3 = 53 SEK
If Stina and Felix pay they will pay full price + service fee for split payment: 103 SEK each
Calculation: (400/4) + 3 = 100 + 3 = 103 SEK
What amount do we reserve on Alvas card?
The amount that we need to reserve on Alvas card is her part + 3 full price parts: 378 SEK
Calculation: (400/40,75) + (4003/4) + 3 = 75 + 300 + 3 = 378 SEK
Why do we need to reserve for 3 full price parts (excluding split fees) when Peter have a 50% discount?
Since Peter is not the booker he has the option to leave and be replaced with a player without any discounts. Therefore, we always need to reserve the maximum possible amount to cover all scenarios.
Different sports and court sizes
The case above described a padel booking where it’s expected that four players join and pay.
What happens if two players want to split a regular padel booking?
Lets use the same case as above but only Alva and Felix will play
Alva will get a 25% discount on 1/4 of the price + full price on 1/4 + service fee for split payment: 178 SEK
Calculation: (400/4*0,75) + (400/4) + 3 = 75 + 100 + 3 = 178 SEK
If Felix pays he will pay full price on 2/4 of the price + service fee for split payment: 203 SEK
Calculation: (400*2/4) + 3 = 200 + 3 = 203 SEK
What amount do we reserve on Alvas card?
The amount that we need to reserve on Alvas card is one discounted part + 3 full price parts: 378 SEK, exactly the same as when splitting the booking in four.
Calculation: (400/40,75) + (4003/4) + 3 = 75 + 300 + 3 = 378 SEK
Shouldn't Alva get a discount on 1/2 the booking price since they are only 2 players?
No, since a standard padel court is expected to have 4 players she only gets her discount on 1/4 of the price. Since the discount would be bigger when applied to 1/2 of the price, players would be incentivized to always split the booking by two (even though they are four players). If it had been a single padel court or squash court then the discount would be on 1/2 of the price.
The main point is that we need to consider how many players the court is intended for and not only how many players are splitting the payment.
How many players are expected for each sport?
We need to consider how many players the court is intended for and not how many players are splitting the payment.
Bookings made more than 7 days in advance
For bookings that are made more than 7 days into the future we will capture the full amount after 7 days and then do a refund so that the total paid amount is correct. This is because we are not allowed to hold reservations longer than 7 days for many payment methods.
* In these markets we have another service fee, so the service fee for split payment does not apply for them: Thailand, Belgium, Netherlands, Romania, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, please read more about this here
* Multi Player Price (MPP) can best be explained as a price structure that varies according to the number of participants in a booking. This means that the cost for each individual decreases as more people participate in the booking.
